Who We Are + What We Do
The Canadian Astronomical Society (CASCA) is the national association of astronomy professionals in Canada. CASCA’s members are scientists, engineers, students, and institutional partners engaged in research, education, and public outreach in astronomy & astrophysics. As the national professional organization for its members, CASCA conducts scientific planning and advocates for community priorities to foster Canada’s engagement in world-class astronomy research.
Mission
CASCA’s mission is to facilitate the advancement and sharing of astronomical knowledge through equitable, inclusive, and sustainable scientific research, education, and outreach.

CASCA strives to conduct its mission following its core values.
Since its inception in 2000, the CASCA Long Range Plan (LRP) is formed every decade by representatives of CASCA, the space industry and academia (through the 20 members of the Association of Canadian Universities for Research in Astronomy, ACURA) who come together to ensure continued scientific excellence in Canadian astronomy.

Results of the 2025 Midterm Review are available here.
The Mid-Term Review (MTR) process is an evaluation of the progress and status of the Long Range Plan.
It is not intended to be as wide-ranging and detailed as the decadal plan outlined in the LRP. The key parts of the review are an assessment of the status of the LRP recommendations, an analysis of new opportunities, and recommendations to address emerging issues.
The resulting review will serve as a single unified vision to reaffirm the LRP process over the second-half of the decade.
