Under the direction of the Director, Dunlap Institute and in close collaboration with the Development Manager at the University of Alberta, the incumbent acts as the project manager for the Canadian Initiative for Radio Astronomy Data Analysis (CIRADA). CIRADA is a national project funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), aimed at converting the enormous raw data streams from next-generation radio telescopes into sophisticated digital databases that astronomers can use to make new discoveries.
Key responsibilities include: ensures CFI compliance and the coordination of projects and teams; creates and monitors work plans, schedules and milestones; identifies resources needed, coordinates and assigns project activities assists in procurement processes; organizes external reviews; oversees the CIRADA budget; prepares project reports and projections for the CIRADA Science Board and Management Committee; acts as a liaison between CIRADA and other collaborating organizations. The incumbent is also responsible for supporting the development of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and monitoring established agreements; updating web pages, wikis, document archives and email lists; as well as convening and coordinating regular project meetings.
Bachelor’s degree preferably in science or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal project management certification (e.g. PMP) would be an asset.
Minimum five (5) years of recent and related experience in project management (preferred in scientific or other related field), including budget and grant management, procurement, strategic planning and reporting, and meeting logistics. Experience with project management software (e.g. MS Project). Experience in providing direction and creating work plans to ensure project milestones are met. Experience with web page editing (e.g. CMS, wikis).
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Windows and Mac. Strong analytical, organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at the same time. Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of radio astronomy or astronomical data processing. Knowledge of CFI grants and University’s financial and procurement policies and procedures. Ability to work with a wide range of individuals at all levels; ability to exercise a high level of tact, discretion and sensitivity; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines; ability to work independently and in a team environment; ability to be self-directed and to take initiative; willingness to travel to partner organizations within Canada occasionally.
Notes: This is a 2-year term position with the possibility for renewal.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 13 — $70,134 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $89,691. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
